Applying for a visa

Click here to browse information organised by country name and key word.

This part of the website provides information on applying for a visa. We will be gradually adding more content over time.

Get in touch here if you're organising an exchange or international volunteering - we might be able to help. (We'd also like to hear from you if think you can offer expertise to help others.)

UK visas
Click here for information about visas for short visits to the UK.

Volunteers who want to be in the UK for a longer period might want to apply for a Tier 5 (Temporary Worker - Government Authorised Exchange) visa. More information about Tier 5 visas can be found at https://www.gov.uk/tier-5-government-authorised-exchange.

NB: If you're taking part in a European Voluntary Service project in the UK, you'll need a Tier 5 visa. You'll find more information about EVS here (European Commission) and below.

We might be able to help you obtain the UK visas you need for a delegation or for international volunteers. Click here for more information.

European Voluntary Service (EVS)
EVS is one of the main programmes through which international volunteers do voluntary work in countries across Europe and the rest of the world. More information about EVS can be found here (European Commission).

What visa you need to apply for and how the application process works will depend on which country you are applying for.

We asked people who had done EVS before to give us information about their experience of the visa application process. You can find information about their responses here.

Although not all of the information will be accurate/up-to-date, hopefully it might give you a flavour of the application process.
