European Commission proposes amendments to Schengen rules on short-term visas

The European Commission has proposed amendments to the rules on short-term visas which apply to the Schengen Area in Europe (ie. the border less zone in Europe). The changes do not directly affect the UK which is not part of the Schengen area.

Before the Commission's proposed amendments become law, they will need to be agreed by the Council (ie. EU member states) and the European Parliament. This is a long process and, therefore, no final changes to the law should be expected before 2015.

The proposal can be accessed at http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/home-affairs/e-library/documents/policies/border....

The European Youth Forum has published an initial response to the amendments which can be be accessed at http://www.youthforum.org/latest-news/european-youth-forum-welcomes-the-....

IFM, the Woodcraft Folk and the European Youth Forum will all be working to ensure that the amendments to the visa rules encourage youth exchanges and promote the ability of young people outside Europe to visit the continent for charitable and voluntary purposes.
